Origin of the Soap Spoon SR1

Who's behind the Soap Spoon SR1?

I'm Andy. I'm a wet shaver. I'm a technical guy whose day job is running an IT consultancy. That's to say I'm obsessed with details and I want efficient solutions.

I fell in love with wet shaving literally as I was performing my first traditional shave. I built my shaving collection, focusing heavily on soaps, which also led to me looking for soap scoops and soap spoons.

Why did I create the Soap Spoon SR1?

The more I lathered, shaved, and rotated through soaps, the more it started to bug me: Long-term soap care was a mess.

There was a specific day when I looked at my bookshelf (repurposed as a soap rack). Most of the containers were open, drying out after tub-loading: Lids off, dried lather looking gross. I realized that if I had a clean, controlled way to scoop soap into a lather bowl, all of this would disappear.

So I checked vendors, forums, and shops. Nothing was what I wanted.

My beliefs:

Open tubs make no sense

Staring at soaps sitting in open containers to dry out recent lather, or flipping them upside-down to remove liquid, and still getting dried lather residue in the soap and around the rim... I feel this is ridiculous. Not just the look, but also the mess, the inconvenience, and the potential impact on soap quality and lifespan - these issues are completely avoidable.

Where are the actual soap spoons?

Everything on the market felt like a branded kitchen utensil, or a cool-but-limited novelty scoop, or was too cheap and flimsy to handle harder soaps. Nothing felt like it was purpose-built for wet shavers and the way we could care for our soaps.

I want to enjoy the ritual

Some people just shave to get it over with. Some don't care about the lather residue inside the tub. Not me: I want to decide where the lather happens, and I want to take the time to enjoy my experience. Controlling the process lets me better enjoy the ritual of shaving, the me-time, the self-care, and the mindfulness.

I've gone through dozens of major iterations refining this tool, and have been using it since prototype #1. I sincerely hope you enjoy it and that it helps make your shaving ritual cleaner, more satisfying, and a little more yours.
